UN Disability Committee erkent recht om op te groeien in een gezin

Het VN Comite voor de rechten van mensen met een handicap heeft expliciet benoemd dat ieder kind het recht heeft om op te groeien in een familie, en niet in een instelling of groepshuis. Het Comite: ”[f]or children, the core of the right to live independently and be in included in the community entails a right to grow up in a family.” (para.37). En: ”[l]arge or small groups homes are especially dangerous for children, for whom there is no substitute for the need to grow up with a family. ’Family-like’ institutions are still institutions and are no substitute for care by a family.” (para.16(c))
