On the International day for the Eradication of Poverty (October 17), DCDD and Light for the World will present the documentary Body and Soul by Matthieu Bron, followed by a panel discussion on how to break the link between poverty and disability.
Fact
Over 1 billion people live with a disability, which accounts for 15% of the world’s population. Persons with disabilities are disproportionally represented among the poorest people in the world. This is not an effect of their disability, but how they are treated by others.
About Body and Soul
The documentary tells the story of three young persons with a physical disability in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. By showing daily activities of these three young Mozambicans, Body and Soul reveals the physical, psychological and emotional challenges people with disabilities experience. The documentary shows the strength and ability of individuals, their strategy to survive and the struggle to be accepted as equals by able-bodied persons. Body and Soul won several prices at film festivals, among which the Human Rights Film Festvial in Kiev.
