The Positive Change: Children, Communities and Care (PC3) Program (2004-2009) emphasizes community-based, results-oriented, and family-focused efforts which reduce the negative impact of HIV and AIDS on children, families and communities.
The program strategies, outlined in Toolkit for Positive Change: Providing Family-Focused, Results-Driven and Cost-Effective Programming for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, increase capacity of local organizations and communities to positively respond to the needs of OVC by harnessing partner strengths, implementing a multilevel tiered approach, building on existing community mechanisms, empowering community mobilization, and providing quality services defined by children and caregivers.
The PC3 Program is a consortium of international and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community groups working to deliver coordinated and comprehensive care and support services to 530,000 vulnerable children and their families throughout Ethiopia. The level of support generated at scale in Ethiopia provides an important guide for similar responses in Africa and globally.
- Faces of Positive Change, which documents program successes and lessons learned, is the companion book to Toolkit for Positive Change. This book is a celebration of three groups; children, families and communities whose participation in the PC3 program is creating significant changes in the lives of individuals and families across the country. By sharing the positive changes, the book is intended to be an inspiration and guide to confronting similar challenges in creative and sustainable ways.
Both components of the Positive Change package will be featured on the international BCN website in the coming weeks. After that, they can be located by using the search function on the homepage.
