The working group on Alternative Care of the Better Care Network Netherlands would like to invite you for this meeting on Family Support and Strengthening
Monday May 6, 2013 from 14.00-16.00 hrs.
Programme
14.00-15.00: Child protection and family services in South Africa
Elize Coetzee (Director Resource Development) of Give a Child a Family (GCF) will give a presentation (30 min) and lead a discussion (30 min) on child protection and family services in South Africa.
GCF is an NGO in Kwazulu Natal Province (KZN) in South Africa. Its mission is for children to be in secure families. Their analyses in KZN show that strong cultural values are not always in the best interest of the child and can lead to the absence of fathers, high prevalence of teenage pregnancies, high number of sexual abuse cases and uncoordinated services of Government departments (police, social workers, home affairs). Therefore GCF runs a programme in two large communities in KZN on community and family support, strengthening and lobby.
